Inside Lundquist: Engaging Alumni and Industry
We are closing out a fantastic fall term at the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business filled with excitement and momentum. We’ve joined a new conference where our students are finding big success in athletics as well as world-class research and learning opportunities in the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Here at the business school, we are taking a moment to reflect on this spectacular national debut while also investing in what makes the Lundquist College great—our alumni, supporters, and industry partners. In this edition of Inside Lundquist, Edward Maletis Dean Bruce Blonigen tells about some additions to our teams and programming and how alumni and partners can exponentially elevate the student experience by sharing expertise and hard-earned insights. Advancing Lundquist College Student Careers Our college is expanded efforts to engage our alumni, who are an amazing source of expertise, mentoring, internships, and great jobs for our students. We have recently hired new members to our Mohr Career Services team--Kim Thompson and Emily Severei--to specifically focus on alumni relationships. Thompson joined us in May as the associate director of alumni engagement. She brings more than 25 years in client engagement, operations and project management, and data analysis, most recently as an economic development consultant with the Institute for Policy Research and Engagement at the University of Oregon. At the Lundquist College, she is focused on streamlining processes to enhance connections with and among alumni, including engaging with partners and groups, such as the Forty Under 40 Advisory Board and the UO Alumni Association. Emily Severeid also joined the college in May. As assistant director of alumni engagement, she is responsible for planning and implementing programs, events, and projects that strengthen alumni connections; enhancing the Lundquist Connect networking platform; and managing the Forty Under 40 Advisory Board. Drawing from her prior experience with such organizations as the National MS Society and Eugene's White Bird Clinic, Severeid is committed to supporting students, cultivating an inclusive community, and amplifying marginalized voices. These efforts build upon the exciting offerings at the college and are in line with the college's strategic plan, as well as the strategic goals of the university. We're Plugged In One tool the team is focused on for accelerating students' job search is the college's networking platform, Lundquist Connect. Ducks hire Ducks, and Lundquist Connect is the space where students, alumni, and friends of the college form connections, share insights, and advance their careers. In this way, we aim to further activate the Lundquist network to bring even more alumni perspectives back to the college—in person or virtually—for student mentorship, networking, and more. The Mohr Career Services team is meeting with alumni to understand their interests and match them to opportunities within the college. They're also developing stronger relationships with key stakeholders and strengthening our alumni database. We would love for you to get involved! If you are interested in exploring internships, increasing your firm's presence on campus, or collaborating on a project and unsure where to start, reach out to Kim! She is happy to help you brainstorm how to get involved and get exposure to our amazing students as we build out and expand program effectiveness for long-term professional success, network formation, and personal career exploration. Thank you for helping to get the word out and joining us as part of the college's community advancing alumni and student networks and connections.
