Free webinar: Big challenges of the football industry in the post-Covid era
Football is the sector of the sports industry with the highest income and profits. Its progress as a socio-economic engine has been unstoppable in recent years, but the forced pause as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected clubs and governing bodies to a greater or lesser extent. The break in competition has forced them to rethink the management model in all spheres to face the return to activity—not only sporting, but also economic— in the best possible way.
In this webinar, we will talk to Ignacio Mas-Bagà, the new academic director of the Master in Football Business in partnership with FC Barcelona, about the big challenges facing the football industry in the post-Covid era. He will explain where the football of the future is heading and how the third edition of the master's degree, which combines academic studies with a deep and up-to-date knowledge of the football industry and the direct teaching of FC Barcelona's management model, has been planned and structured.
Ignacio Mas-Bagà has been the chairman of the Board and CEO of Girona FC since July 2015, and is the new academic director of the Master in Football Business in partnership with FC Barcelona offered by Johan Cruyff Institute. During these five seasons, Mas-Bagà has led the effort to restructure the business area as well as to restore the image of the club among its stakeholders after the insolvency situation in 2013. Under his leadership, Girona FC achieved promotion to LaLiga (the Spanish first division) for the first time in the club’s history (in 2017) and presented their best-ever financial results with €6.7 million net profits (in 2018).
Prior to joining Girona FC, Mas-Bagà worked at LaLiga as events manager in charge of coordinating the sports events within the LFP World Challenge project, and for the marketing agency Mediapro Group (Media Sports Marketing), working for clubs such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Boca Juniors, Atlético Madrid and PSG, among others, developing projects in five continents. He also has experience in Formula 1, through the sponsorship activations of Banco Santander and Jose Cuervo in different teams, including Ferrari, McLaren and Renault.
Mas-Bagà graduated in business science from the University Ramon Llull – IQS, Barcelona.
